Technical FAQs

Do I need to have access to a computer to attend?

Yes. Based on financial need, we provide eligible students a loaner laptop and printer to ensure they have the equipment they need for school. These laptops and printers are Highpoint Virtual Academy of Michigan (HVAM) instructional property and must be returned when the student leaves the school. HVAM also provides assistance with technical and software issues for loaner laptops and printers.

Students must have access to the internet to successfully complete their lessons. Based on financial need or other circumstances, HVAM may provide a stipend to offset the cost of the internet service. This determination takes place during the enrollment process.

What computer skills are required?

The Learning Coach needs to have at least basic computer skills. Use of the computer is an important part of the online school program. In the elementary grades, it is mostly the Learning Coach who interacts with the computer. Middle school and high school students are most successful if they have basic computer skills.
